Opportunity:
HTC is looking for Concept Systems Engineers for the Studio Engineering team in San Francisco, CA.  The US Studio Engineering team members will work closely with Studio Industrial Designers in the conception, definition, proof of concept, and productization of new and innovative experiences.  This position requires the ability to work with technologists and industrial designers to imagine, define, model, design, and implement innovative solutions.  The Concept Systems Engineer will lead members of the cross-functional technical experts team to architect, design and evaluate new platforms, technologies, and form factors for future smartphone and related products.  The candidate must have broad based knowledge of portable wireless devices and technologies and the ability to drive innovative technical solutions. 

Job responsibilities:

  • Work with other Studio Engineering team members (in San Francisco, Durham and Taipei), Industrial Designers, and New Technology teams in the Ideation, Refinement, Proof-of-Concept, and Implementation phases of new products
  • Lead technical discussions and coordinate technical team activities
  • Act as an interface between high level management, industrial designers, and technical experts
  • Design, model, and build complex product systems with multiple interoperability constraints.
  • Specify requirements for product level systems and subsystems.
  • Perform component-level and system-level tradeoff analyses
  • Research new technologies and assess feasibility for inclusion in new concepts
  • Support engineering designs through analysis and simulation
  • Work with suppliers to evaluate new technologies
  • Develop verification plans and perform testing to verify the new technologies and concepts
  • Estimate cost and quality of the technical solutions
  • The qualified candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent leadership, organizational aptitude and demonstrated knowledge of engineering\development processes for small form factor consumer devices.  The candidate must be innovative in coming up with unusual solutions to new problems, and have excellent communications\ presentation skills. The candidate should be self-driven, organized, creative, and be able to work in a high uncertainty environment under minimal supervision with tight and shifting deadlines.

The successful candidate will have:

  • BS (MS Preferred) in Electrical, SW or Mechanical Engineering as well as a minimum of 10 years industry experience.
  • Strong electrical, mechanical, and\or SW engineering background, particularly in small form factor mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of mobile device platforms and technical solutions preferred
  • Demonstrated innovation in the form of innovative work experiences, patents, etc
  • Willingness to travel to customer, supplier and other HTC facilities (up to 25%) for technical support, oversight and negotiation.
