In emerging markets, such as China, HTC will continue to extend its reach to customers by expanding distribution channels.

    HTC Reports 3Q 2011 Results

QUARTERLY REVENUES, NET PROFITS AND EPS ALL HIT NEW HIGHS

Taoyuan, Taiwan, October 31, 2011 – HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2498), a global leader in smartphone innovation and design, today announced consolidated results of the Company and its subsidiaries for the third quarter of 2011.

    3Q Highlights
    • After-tax profit was NT$18.68bn, up 68% year-on-year; EPS was NT$22.07
    • Total revenues grew for the sixth consecutive quarter since 1Q 2010 and reached NT$135.82bn, up 79% year-on-year
    • Handset shipments totaled 13.2mn units, up 93% year-on-year
    • ASP was US$344, up 0.6% year-on-year
    • Gross profit margin and operating margin were both in line with original guidance at 28.0% and 14.9%, respectively

    3Q 2011 Results
HTC’s diverse product offerings, expanded distribution network and growing global brand recognition, have helped the Company deliver a record-high quarterly revenue of NT$135.82bn in the third quarter of 2011, resulting in after-tax earnings of NT$18.68bn and EPS of NT$22.07.

HTC sold 13.2 million smartphones in 3Q 2011: 93% more than the same period last year, and 9% more than the second quarter of this year.

New products launched during 3Q addressed a wide variety of customers and market segments. Co-branded with Beats, HTC Sensation XE and HTC Sensation XL offer a studio-quality experience to consumers. HTC Rhyme bundled a new HTC Sense experience and sleek accessories to create a lifestyle device. The Company expanded its entry-level offerings by launching HTC Explorer into emerging markets, such as India, on the heels of HTC Wildfire’s success. And HTC Titan and HTC Radar were the first smartphones to launch with the new Windows Phone “Mango” platform.

China is one of the most important growth regions for HTC, and China reported top sales growth across all regions this quarter – 9x more than its sales volume in the same period last year. HTC Wildfire has become an iconic, mainstream smartphone in the region, and HTC launched the flagship HTC Sensation into two major operators (China Mobile and China Unicom) networks. Two highly-customized social networking devices – HTC 微客 with Sina Weibo and HTC ChaCha with QQ – showed HTC’s strong commitment to deepen Chinese consumers’ experience. The Company aims to capture early brand preference in China, as smartphone penetration is at an early stage.

Operating profit continued to grow from NT$12.40 billion in the same period last year, to NT$20.18 billion this quarter- up 63% year-on-year and 5% quarter-on-quarter - on the back of expansion in operating scale and increased revenue. HTC is focused on driving economic scale to achieve efficient operating leverage and a healthy operating margin level.

“We aim to lead the way as the smartphone market continues to expand and change rapidly,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “We pride ourselves on anticipating market and consumer needs and addressing them before they are realized. We are growing rapidly and responsibly around the globe and continue to expand our leadership in new areas, such as LTE.”

LTE technology is expected to be the next generation wireless communication technology for high-speed data. Since 2009, HTC has maintained its leadership position in 4G, developing and shipping more 4G devices than any other company. An LTE device upgrade cycle is foreseeable in 2012 in both the United States and some advanced markets in Asia (e.g., Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong). HTC is poised to capture an advantage in this market.

In addition to LTE, HTC has invested in delivering innovation to the entry-level smartphone sector. HTC Wildfire has become one of the Company’s top selling products, and the newly-launched HTC Explorer continues to attract first-time smartphone buyers. The Company is committed to drive innovation, not only with high-end LTE devices, but also to the mass market.

Despite uncertainties in the macro-economic environment, HTC believes in its ability to continue to drive strong growth, and is committed to continue investing in marketing, operations and R&D. Going into fourth quarter this year, HTC’s retail presence in China is expected to expand, totaling up to 2,000 outlets. A new factory in Taoyuan is scheduled to complete beginning of next year, which has the potential to increase capacity by up to 40 million units per year. Last but not least, the Company continues its focus on creating global brand preference and emotional connection with customers.

    4Q 2011 Outlook
The Company’s outlook for the fourth quarter of 2011 is as follows:
    • 4Q revenue expected to be around NT$125 to 135bn, up 20% to 30% year-on-year
    • 4Q shipment expected to be around 12.0 to 13.0mn units, up 31% to 42% year-on-year
    • Gross margin expected to be around 28.0%±0.5%
    • Operating margin expected to be in the range of 14.5%±0.5%

    Conference Call and Webcast

Unveiled today, HTC ThunderBolt on Verizon is one of the world’s first LTE smartphones, spearheading Verizon Wireless’ push into the world of 4G. Embedded deeply within the HTC Sense experience is Skype connectivity, allowing people to connect to other Skype users from virtually anywhere, and between mobile devices and from mobile to PC. This campaign focuses on how HTC puts people at the center of everything it does, and the HTC innovations that have been inspired by listening to consumers, and responding to their needs.
“At HTC, our long-standing focus has been to find new ways to make the mobile experience simpler for customers. We don’t believe in innovating for innovation’s sake, but rather to first gain a deep understanding of our customers to ensure that every HTC innovation creates a real customer benefit,” said John Wang, chief marketing officer for HTC Corporation. “This way of thinking about innovation is the inspiration behind the latest evolution of our brand advertising campaign.”
HTC launched its first global brand campaign at the end of 2009, with global brand awareness around 16 percent. Today, in the wake of HTC’s market success and brand campaign, HTC’s brand awareness is reaching 60 percent.

  • 08/17/2010HTC Launches Compact Smartphone – HTC HD mini

Sydney, Australia – 17, August 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today introduced the HTC HD mini – a HTC Sense™-based Windows® Phone sporting a high degree of usability along with its own unique and compact design.

“HTC constantly assesses customer feedback, and it was with this feedback in mind that the HTC HD mini was developed to meet the needs of people who want a smartphone with a more compact design without losing key features, usability and style” said Anthony Petts, Sales and Marketing Director ANZ, HTC Corporation. “The integration of HTC Sense on the HTC HD mini gives customers an additional choice for an advanced Windows Phone that is rich with features, simple to use and loaded with valuable applications. The HTC HD mini is the first device, to be launched in partnership with Synnex, one of our key distributors in Australia.”

HTC HD Mini Overview and Key Features
Hold great craftsmanship in your hand with a unique design that is simple yet beautiful from inside out.
Clean lines, compact form, and elegant construction give the HTC HD mini the looks that fit any place, time or circumstance. Precision fasteners used to assemble the phone are externally visible, displaying a high level of craftsmanship. The strong design ethos continues under the battery cover so that a bright yellow internal structure offers an unexpected surprise when the phone is opened.

The HTC HD mini features HTC Sense™ – a user experience that revolves around the three core tenets of Make It Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected  - which is simple to use, amazing to look at, and loaded with valuable applications.

    Make It Mine
Create a perfect phone for yourself by putting shortcuts to the most important people, web sites, or most used applications right on the home screen. Prioritise your essentials by arranging the tabs of the key phone features to suit your needs.

    Stay Close
Stay close to those you care about with all the ways to get in touch and all your past interactions neatly organised by people – not by applications. The device helps you stay close to the important friends and colleagues in your life by providing a single contact view that displays individual communication snapshots of your conversations regardless of whether it was a call, text, status update or email. The HTC HD mini continues the same focus on people-centric communication with complete Outlook integration.

Go from email to a voice call in just one touch. Get everyone from an email involved in a multi-party call with a couple of taps. Take the challenge out of jumping between a calendar appointment and phone when trying to join a conference bridge – now you’re guided with a big reminder button – so you can easily join in on the call.

Keep track of everyone’s real-time Twitter™ updates on HTC’s built-in client HTC Peep. Dive easily into a conversation or share your own thoughts and pictures. You can even post your precise GPS location with a couple of taps.

    Discover the Unexpected
Some design features of HTC HD mini are much better experienced than explained. For example, you can virtually feel the weather on the lifelike animated wallpaper that automatically reflects your location.

Experience a phone ringer that knows when it has been heard and when it should ring loudly for your attention. The ringer volume lowers when the G-sensor on your phone detects that the phone has been picked up. On the other hand, when the proximity sensors detect that the phone is in your pocket or a purse, the ringer volume scales up to ensure that you don’t miss an important call.

Give your music collection the visual décor it deserves. With just one tap, your phone searches the web for the actual album art cover and replaces the placeholder image in your music library.

The HTC HD mini, with capacitive touch technology, is designed for pure finger touch control. Zoom in and out of web pages, word documents, PDFs, pictures, or emails with just a simple pinch. Set up calendar appointments, reply to emails, and adjust your phone settings on the interface optimized for use with your fingers.

Bring the HTC HD mini with you on the road, and you'll never have to hunt for a Wi-Fi® hotspot for your laptop. Your phone simply connects to superfast 3.5G cellular networks and becomes your personal wireless access point – anytime, anywhere.  You can download a variety of applications from the Windows® Marketplace for Mobile to further suit your own needs and style.

    Availability
The HTC HD mini is currently available for an RRP of $599 at Harvey Norman.

  • 04/30/2010Update: GPS Function Enabled On HTC Desire In Australia

HTC and Telstra have been working together to develop a software update that will correct the issue. This update will be available to customers this evening, Friday 30th April (AEST).

The software update will be available in two forms:

    1.    Firmwareover the air (FOTA). A notification will appear on the Telstra variant HTC Desire smartphones advising the customer an update is available. Customers can then choose to install this update over their mobile network or over Wi-Fi (it is recommended that customers travelling outside Australia use a Wi-Fi hotspot). The update will be unmetered for Telstra customers who download the update via the Next G™ network in Australia. Customers will receive step-by-step installation instructions with the notification.

    2.   Software download from the htc.com/au website. This software download will contain the complete updated software package (also known as the ROM) for the device. The package size is around 150MB and should be downloaded to a PC before being installed onto the HTC Desire via the bundled USB cable. Please note this method will erase any data stored on the device which cannot be reclaimed once new software is installed. Customers are strongly advised to back up all data on the device’s removable memory cards before installing new software as files stored on the device’s removable memory card will not be affected.

The software update also introduces an additional feature to the HTC Desire – voice search. Voice search allows customers to use voice commands to find information on the internet more quickly. The voice search feature is integrated within the search functions on the device and can be activated by pressing the microphone button next to the search box.

Customers can contact HTC if they have any further queries at http://www.htc.com/au/help/
or call HTC Customer Care in Australia on 1300-482-482.
